Opel Switzerland is setting an example for dynamic commitment in top-class sport: Freestyle snowboarder Nicolas Huber, freestyle ski professional Mathilde Gremaud, cross-country skier Jason Rüesch and snowboard racer Ladina Jenny (from left to right) took part in a video to mark the start of the long-term partnership.

Opel Hits the Slopes

It’s a very likeable quartet: First, cross-country skier Jason Rüesch, freestyle ski professional Mathilde Gremaud and snowboard racer Ladina Jenny stow their sports equipment in the trunk of the Opel Astra Sports Tourer, before freestyle snowboarder Nicolas Huber dangles upside down from the compact class bestseller. With the fast-paced video, Opel announced a new dynamic partnership: from May 1, 2024, the brand with the Blitz will be the official car partner of Swiss-Ski for the freestyle and Nordic areas.

“By supporting athletes and staff members, we are sending a clear signal for a dynamic commitment to top-class sport,” said Tobias Dilsch, Managing Director of Opel Switzerland, emphasising the importance of this partnership. “Opel stands for sportiness and is proud of a long-standing sporting history. Our partnership with Swiss-Ski is the logical consequence and the continuation of our sporting commitment at national level.”

“We are enthusiastic about supporting the professionals and young athletes with our passion for sport.”

High-flyers such as three-time Olympian Ladina Jenny or Mathilde Gremaud, who dominates the freestyle skiing scene, but also ski jumping legend Simon Ammann will get new company cars with the Blitz to drive to training and competitions. As a new vehicle partner for the Nordic and freestyle areas, Opel not only provides the Grandland and Vivaro models to athletes, but also to trainers and other members of the support team. “Sustainability plays a central role in this partnership. We have set ourselves a common goal: a large part of our fleet will be fully electric in the future,” revealed Diego Züger, CEO Commercial of Swiss-Ski.

It is the first time in the history of Swiss-Ski that there is a dedicated official vehicle partner for the two areas of freestyle and Nordic. Opel will not only support the teams in competing at the highest level with innovative models, but also with energy and power under the motto “Energise your life”. The brand is also involved as the namesake and main sponsor of the “Opel Freeski Tour” and “Opel Snowboard Tour” and also supports grassroots sports with its up-and-coming young talents.

Opel is a “Gold Partner Freestyle & Nordic” and shows commitment to both professional athletes and the promotion of young talent.
Freestyle disciplines include freeski, skicross, snowboard, aerials, moguls and telemark. Overall, Opel supports athletes in ten out of eleven Swiss-Ski sports.

Because: The best possible conditions for mobility and transport are of central importance for our athletes and the support staff in the hectic everyday life of competition,” said Urs Lehmann, President of the Swiss Ski Association Swiss-Ski.

Commitment with tradition

Sporting partnerships have a tradition at Opel in Switzerland: Opel has been closely linked to Swiss Sports Aid for several years and supports young Swiss athletes. The brand also supports four athletes from the fields of athletics, rowing, swimming and windsurfing. And as a partner of the TCS eSports League, Opel Switzerland is also involved in digital sports.
