Jaime Monge has turned the new Grandland into a canvas: the small figures that adorn on the body are characteristic of the Spanish artist's paintings.

New Grandland Officially a Work of Art

What Opel has known from the start is now truly official – the new Grandland is a work of art. With its bold and pure design, illuminated Opel Blitz sitting proudly in the centre of the Opel Vizor, and permanently illuminated OPEL wordmark on the tailgate, Opel’s top-of-the-line SUV embraces many design elements first seen on the Opel Experimental brand concept. In addition, the Grandland also follows Opel’s ‘Greenovation’ approach. It comes purely with electrified powertrains, the exterior no longer features any chrome elements and on the inside, 100 per cent of the fabrics are made of materials with a recycled content. This applies to the seats as well as to the door panels, instrument panel and centre console.

However, the developers of the new Grandland were not satisfied with that. They placed great importance on not only making the visible parts and components from recycled or recyclable materials, but also the parts that are initially hidden from the eye. For example, the Grandland is made of recycled aluminium as well as steel with recycled content. In addition, the Grandland consists of up to 95 per cent reusable and 85 per cent recyclable materials. In total, more than 500 kilogrammes of the Grandland’s weight is made up of recycled and renewable raw materials.

It is precisely this combination of state-of-the-art technologies and sustainable mobility that attracted Madrid-born artist Jaime Monge to the Grandland. “The values of Jaime Monge’s work share many points in common with Opel’s philosophy: Design, innovation, pure lines, Detox, but he also links it to people as the main characters,” explains Rosa Caniego, Communications Director for Opel in Spain.

Whether designer, engineer, production employee or customer: The work of art is a tribute to all the people who put the locally emissions-free Opel Grandland on the road.
“The project is a reminder that the Grandland is the result of the passion of many,” says Jaime Monge.

And thus, Jaime Monge set about turning Opel’s top-of-line SUV into something even more special – starting with the colour. “The specific pantone applied reflects the strong commitment Opel cars have to the environment where people walk on a beautiful green field while driving a car,” explains the 34-year-old. “In general, the concept explores the hands behind the process of designing and constructing a vehicle. It puts the spotlight on all the people involved from beginning to end. The human landscape formed by hundreds of people represents everyone from those on the production line to the family that buys the car.” Overall, a stunning salute to everybody involved in the development of the new Grandland and the customers.

This obviously leads to the question how the somewhat unusual cooperation between the artist, who has over 130,000 followers on Instagram, and the brand with the Blitz came about. “I had already been able to admire his work in a modern art exhibition and finally met Jaime during a press event we organised last year in Spain to commemorate the 125th anniversary of automotive production at Opel,” said Caniego. From the first minute you start talking to Jaime, his passion for architecture, design and creativity is evident. In November 2024, we decided to seal the collaboration between Opel Spain and Jaime Monge, who is the official Opel Grandland ambassador in this exciting world of Arts.”
