Opel shines in ADAC Ecotest

Opel models are among the cleanest vehicles in Germany according to Europe’s largest automobile association, the ADAC (General German Automobile Club). The Opel Corsa Electric was ranked joint second and the Opel Astra Sports Tourer Electric fifth among 84 vehicles tested by the ADAC, further confirming the electrification strategy of the brand with the Blitz.

With a total score of 103 points and CO2 emissions of just 82 grammes per kilometre, the bestselling Corsa Electric finished joint second with the family-friendly Astra Sports Tourer Electric coming in fifth with 99 points and CO2 emissions of 87 grammes per kilometre. The ADAC does not view electric cars as zero-emissions vehicles, but rather takes CO₂ emissions and pollutants linked to the generation of electricity into account. Here, the low electrical consumption of the Opel models enabled them to shine in the rankings.

Excellent sales performance

The outstanding results for the Corsa and the Astra come on the back of an excellent sales performance for both models in Germany in 2024. The Corsa was the bestselling small car in Europe’s largest automotive market for the fourth year in a row. According to official data from the Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA), the Corsa took the top spot in the small car segment with 43,467 new registrations. Since its launch in 1982, more than 14.6 million units of the Corsa have been sold worldwide. The Corsa follows Opel’s tradition of democratising innovative technologies. These include, for example, the Intelli-Lux Matrix Light and numerous modern driver assistance systems. With the Corsa, Opel is also making electromobility affordable: the battery-electric Corsa Electric is available for under €30,000 in Germany.

Elsewhere, the Astra and the Astra Sports Tourer estate also delivered exciting annual results in 2024. With around 47,600 new registrations in Germany, sales of the compact class bestseller increased by almost 90 per cent compared to the previous year.
