The new Astra prevails against strong competition and wins the “Golden Steering Wheel 2022” as “Best Car up to 50,000 Euros”. The newcomer from Rüsselsheim convinces the readers of AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG as well as the expert jury as a five-door and Sports Tourer. “With the new Opel Astra we have once again hit the bull’s eye – especially as a plug-in hybrid. We are delighted that the readers of AUTO BILD and BILD am SONNTAG, the jury and the editorial team see it the same way,” said Opel CEO Florian Huettl at the award ceremony in the Axel Springer Haus in Berlin.
“The new Astra has shaken up the compact class.”

Tom Drechsler, Editor-in-Chief and Managing Director AUTO of the BILD Group, summarised the reasons for the Astra’s success: “The new Astra has shaken up the compact class because it has many of the qualities that you need to be successful in this segment. A large display, reasonable trunk volume and the choice of different drives – all of this on a single platform. And if that doesn’t convince you, you just have to try the ergonomic seats.”
With this year’s win, Opel makes the triple perfect: after the Corsa-e in 2020 and the Mokka-e last year, this year the “Auto Oscar” goes to Rüsselsheim for the third time in a row. Europe’s most important award in the automotive industry was presented this year for the 46th time. In total, Opel has won the “Golden Steering Wheel” 20 times so far.
